The Super Red Arowana from the Kapuas River system in West Kalimantan, Borneo, represents the absolute pinnacle of red arowana breeding. This is not simply a red fish — it is a living artifact of decades of selective breeding, where the most intensely pigmented specimens from the Kapuas basin have been paired generation after generation to produce fish with coloration so deep and luminous that they appear to radiate light. The term "Super Red" is not marketing; it is a classification earned only by fish whose red pigmentation extends uniformly across all six scale rows, the gill plates, fins, and lips.

Our current specimen is a verified Kapuas River lineage fish from one of the most respected breeding operations in Indonesian Borneo. It arrives with full CITES microchip documentation, genetic lineage records, and a certificate of authenticity. At current size, the fish already displays the hallmark flame-red coloration that will continue to deepen and intensify over the next several years. Mature Super Reds from premium bloodlines can appear almost incandescent under proper lighting conditions.

The aquarium requirements mirror those of other large Scleropages formosus: a minimum 300-gallon tank with a secure lid, robust filtration cycling the volume six times hourly, and stable water chemistry at 79 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit with pH between 6.5 and 7.5. Dark substrates and backgrounds are strongly recommended to bring out the full depth of the red pigmentation. Many collectors use blackwater conditions with tannins from Indian almond leaves or driftwood.

Feeding consists of gut-loaded insects, market shrimp, premium pellets, and occasional earthworms. Colour-enhancing supplements containing astaxanthin can support pigment maintenance but will not create coloration that the genetics do not support.

This is a once-in-a-generation specimen. The Fish Collection ships via dedicated climate-controlled courier with our absolute live arrival guarantee.

よくあるご質問

What makes a Super Red Arowana different from a Blood Red?
Super Red Arowanas represent the highest grade of red coloration, with pigment extending uniformly across all six scale rows, fins, gill plates, and lips. Blood Reds are excellent but may show slightly less uniformity. Super Red is a classification reserved for the most intensely pigmented specimens.
Why are Kapuas River Super Reds so valuable?
The Kapuas River system in West Kalimantan has historically produced the most intensely colored red arowanas in the world. Decades of selective breeding from this specific gene pool have created bloodlines with unmatched pigmentation depth. Verified Kapuas lineage commands a significant premium.
How do I maintain the red color of my Super Red Arowana?
Use dark substrates, subdued lighting, and tannin-rich blackwater conditions. Feed colour-supporting foods with natural astaxanthin and carotenoids. Maintain stress-free conditions with stable water chemistry. Genetics are the primary driver, but proper husbandry maximizes pigment expression.
What is the price range for Super Red Arowanas?
Super Red Arowanas range from $10,000 for juveniles to over $50,000 for mature adults with exceptional coloration and verified Kapuas River genetics. Our specimen at $25,000 reflects its premium lineage, current coloration intensity, and complete CITES documentation.
