Gobioides broussonnetii looks like something conjured from mythology: an elongated, eel-like body covered in iridescent blue-violet scales, a massive head studded with rows of tiny, fang-like teeth, and small, almost vestigial eyes that give it a perpetually fierce expression. First-time viewers invariably assume it is a vicious predator. In reality, the Dragon Goby is a gentle filter-feeder that uses those imposing teeth to sift through substrate for algae, detritus, and tiny invertebrates. Diet is straightforward but requires attention to the fish's feeding mechanics. Because the Dragon Goby is essentially a substrate sifter, it does not compete well for floating food with faster tankmates.
