Aquarium Equipment Overview

Canister Filters

Heaters and Temperature Control
Stable temperature is critical — a swing of more than 2 °C in 24 hours stresses fish and triggers disease outbreaks, particularly Ich. The standard sizing formula: 3–5 watts per gallon for heated rooms (20+ °C ambient), 5–8 watts per gallon for cold rooms or basements.
Heater types:

Substrate Selection
Substrate serves three functions: biological filtration surface area, plant root medium, and aesthetic foundation. The right choice depends on your fish and plants.
